On 6th October 2003 the world lost a brilliant man, father, golfer and leader. Paul died far too young, but not before he was able to make an impact on the people around him.
In the 18 years since my father’s passing, I have been fortunate to meet and work with many people that knew him professionally during his career as a leader who grew a small print company of 11 people to a wonderful organization of over 300 people.
What strikes me about the stories I am told about my father’s leadership is the passion and emotion in which they are shared with me, despite the length of time that has passed.
In a world of pop-leadership, gimmicky advice, and where company valuation is revered above morality, I am fascinated and intrigued by the lessons that can be learnt about true leadership by understanding what is still remembered nearly 20 years after an inspiring and respected leader’s passing.
Throughout 2021, my aim is to hear as many stories of Paul’s leadership as possible from those that worked with him throughout his career.
While I have an idea of the themes that may appear throughout these stories, I don’t know exactly what we’ll end up with.
At the end of the year, I plan to turn these stories into a book of the leadership lessons that deserve to be told as part of his legacy.
